ETA NU SIGMA 2016-2017
EVENTS CALENDAR
Eta Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter:
The Ladies of Eta Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter didn’t let their 2016 Calendar year stop them from continuing to work throughout the summer in the Brooklyn and Queens Communities of NYC. The Chapter kept that torch going by honoring their Soror Sandra Bland with a candle light vigil to mark the 1 year anniversary of her passing, keeping the #Sandystillspeaks alive. They continued their journey with the participating in the “No Doubt March for Justice”, hosted by The National Pan-Hellenic Council of Greater New York (NYC) to shine light on the lack of the, benefit of the DOUBT in police encounters for colored Women, Men and Children. This Chapter really kept busy and participated in the Annual African Day Parade held in Harlem NY providing a well decorated car/ float to represent all NYC chapters. This chapter is unstoppable they held their Annual OBBB (Operation Big Book Bag) Event donating tons of school supplies on August 21, 2016 at a “Knowledge is Power Rally” in the Queens community of NY it must have been nice because they had to do it twice a second OBBB was held at the St. John’s AME Church on Sept 11, 2016 serving the Bedford Stuyvesant community of Brooklyn NY it was such a success the St. John’s AME church invited Eta Nu Sigma Chapter Alumnae to host future events at their church.

On Sept 24, 2016, the Eta Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter rolled up their sleeves and continued working in their Brooklyn and Queens communities with participating in the St. Jude’s walk at Cadman Plaza in BK NY with their Rhoers. On October 14, 2016, the Eta Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter held their Annual Antibullying event at the Brukelen Cornerstone PAL in Brooklyn NY over 70 guess attended and were taught skills in recognizing all forms of bullying and how to prevent it. "NO DOUBT" MARCH FOR JUSTICE
On Wednesday, July 20, 2016, the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Greater New York (NYC) will host a peaceful march from lower Manhattan to downtown Brooklyn seeking justice and fighting against the criminalization of our police stemming from police brutality.
The "NO DOUBT March for Justice" is coined as such primarily because our Black men, women and children do not receive the benefit of the DOUBT in police encounters as other people do. The phrase is also apropos in letting our communities, and the larger community, know not to DOUBT us - we are resilient, intelligent and powerful as well and have the ability to use our individual and collective resources to achieve justice for our people.

FEED THE HUNGRY W/PHI BETA SIGMA &
GREATER ALLEN CATHEDRAL AME THANKSGIVING
On Thursday November 24, 2016 we will once again feed over 200 seniors a sit-down home cooked holiday meal and deliver 50 additional meals to local homebound seniors. This event is now in its 45th year and continues to be a wonderful success because of volunteers like YOU!

This dinner is a true community effort that is co-sponsored by Heights and Hills, Grace Church and the Cobble Hill Health Center with assistance from the 84th Precinct and the Brooklyn Heights community. The turkeys, stuffing and sweet potatoes are cooked and donated by Cobble Hill Health Center and transported to Grace Church on Thanksgiving morning by officers from the 84th Precinct. Grace Church provides the wonderful location; table settings, paper goods and coffee, and desserts are baked and donated by people in the neighborhood.
Heights and Hills supplies the rest - cranberry sauce, vegetables, bread, cider and containers for delivery, and coordinates the festivities. We are so grateful to be able to do this work; this event not only feeds Brooklyn seniors in need who would otherwise spend the day alone, it allows all of us to be part of a caring community and experience a deeper sense of meaning for the day. We invite you to volunteer this year:

Where: Grace Church, 254 Hicks street between Grace Court and Remsen Street in Brooklyn Heights.
When: Thursday November 24th. Volunteers will arrive from 9am to 11am based on job assignment and should be prepared to stay until 2:30-3:00pm to help clean-up if possible. Dinner will be served at noon.

We will also be meeting at Grater Allen AME (110-31 Merrick Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11433) at 9a Thanksgiving morning. Last year we were able to serve food to over 100 members of the Jamaica, Queens community. Join us as we give back again this year!
