Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc History
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin and Cubena McClure.
The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to Alpha chapter at Butler University. Soaring To Greater Heights Of Attainment Around The World, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., as a leading national service organization, has met the challenges of the day and continues to grow through Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service.
Northeastern Region
History
The Northeastern Region was organized in 1939 at the Boule in New York City hosted by Kappa Sigma Chapter. The chapters included were: Alpha Zeta, Virginia State College, Petersburg, V.A., Alpha Pi, Hunter College, New York, N.Y., Alpha Phi, Howard University, Washington, D.C., Tau, Virginia Union University, Richmond, V.A., Iota Sigma, Richmond, V.A., Kappa Sigma, New York, N.Y., Phi Sigma, Washington, D.C., and Omega Sigma, Newport News, V.A.

Soror Edna F. Browne, Phi Sigma, was elected the first Northeast Regional Syntaktes. In May 1940, the first Northeast Regional Conference was held Virginia Union University with Iota Sigma as the Hostess Chapter.

The Northeastern Region is currently comprised of the following areas: Bermuda, eastern Canada, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Korea, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virgin Islands, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Eta Nu Sigma
History
Eta Nu Sigma Chapter was chartered on December 21, 1991. The chartering members of Eta Nu Sigma Alumnae chapter were: Michelle Arransky-Orroyo, Angela Heres, Zelica Henry, Cheryl Barnes-Horton, Grace Powell, Judith Ricot and Adrienne Simmons.
Eta Nu Sigma Chapter fosters sisterhood among its local membership, while providing community service and scholarship. We service the communities of Brooklyn through unique programming. In 2005 the chapter established the Seven Roses Legacy Foundation that serves as the charitable arm of the chapter. The purpose of the foundation is to empower youth to expand their cultural and social horizons, improve their financial literacy, and pursue higher education.

The chapter also has an active young ladies mentoring group called the Rhoer Club.
Welcome Nu Beta Sigma
Eta Nu Sigma Chapter welcomes the newly chartered Nu Beta Sigma Chapter. Eta Nu Sigma Chapter, formerly known as the Brooklyn & Queens Alumnae, will now solely service the Borough of Brooklyn. Our sister chapter, Nu Beta Sigma will service the Borough of Queens. This amicable split is historical as Queens now has a designated group of sorors to focus on her needs. Furthermore, this expansion promotes growth, and fosters a newfound commitment to the community.
Installed on June 27, 2020, the chartering members of Nu Beta Sigma are: Jophinee Behr, Melanie Charles, Thandi Edwards, Sandra Grandchamps, Renee Hernandez, Althea Hicks,Taniqua Hunter, Anairene Lalin, Hetha Lawrence, and Tanya Lue Tsing is the current Basileus. These are all former members of Eta Nu Sigma Chapter. Accomplished in their own right, these sorors have spearheaded events and held leadership roles throughout their membership. Thus, we know they’ll do great things. We look forward to future partnerships and collaborations with our sister chapter and wish them much success.
