Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., gives leadership, service, and resources toward removing barriers and inequalities so that all people of America may develop their potential and exercise full citizenship.

Through support of human rights legislation, service to and support of grass roots individual and community development activity, and through active participation in the programs of affiliate and other organizations, we are committed to working to improve the quality of our lives and the society we serve.

Sigma Gamma Rho, in its quest to expand its area of service, actively participates in the sponsoring of national and international programs designed for the improved welfare of all people.

Since Eta Nu Sigma's chartering in 1991, some of the chapter's service activities have included its Wee Savers program, which provides financial workshops to youth throughout Brooklyn, Operation Big Book Bag, during which the chapter donates hundreds of dollars worth of school supplies to under-privileged grade schoolers, and annual participation in New York Cares Day.

More recently, Eta Nu Sigma provided assistance to Assembly member Rhoda S. Jacobs (D-Flatbush, Midwood) with the chapter's donation of 30 new car seats for Pre-Kindergarteners in Community School Board 22.  Eta Nu Sigma's commitment to spreading awareness about the importance of using seat belts, through Sigma Gamma Rho's national program, “Buckle-Up America,' continues to be the one of the chapter's hallmark contributions.

Eta Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter has also collaborated with many organizations, which have included:  Girl Scouts Council of Greater New York; Board of Education of the City of New York; Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) for Annual AIDS WALK New York; Brownsville Recreational Center, and the AllStars Network, led by Dr. Lenora Fulani.  Working with local organizations has allowed the chapter to broaden its reach outside of its national programs.
